Early morning crash kills cab driver
AUBURN -- A taxi driver died Friday morning after an SUV allegedly ran a red light and collided with the cab on Auburn Way North.
According to police, an SUV was traveling southbound around 5:50 a.m. on Auburn Way North when the driver ran a red light on Main Street. The SUV crashed into a cab traveling eastbound on Main Street.
Police said the driver of the taxi was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the SUV allegedly fled from the crash but was soon caught by police. He and a female passenger were transported to the Auburn Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash, police said. Auburn Way and Main Street were closed as police investigated the incident.
