Family of 5 narrowly escapes house fire
GRAHAM, Wash. -- A family of five were taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning following a large, 2-alarm fire that burned across the street from an elementary school.
Firefighters received a call of a large fire around 5 a.m. in the 17000 block of 74th Avenue E. in Graham. Officials with the Graham Fire Department arrived on the scene a family home located right across the street from Fredericksen Elementary School riddled with smoke and flames. Firefighters quickly called a second alarm, and worked to put out the blaze around 6 a.m.
Two adults and three kids inside the building were lucky to make it out of the fire alive, Steve Richards of Graham Fire said. One of the adults was in serious condition, and all were taken to the hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
Assistant Chief, Steve Richards said, “They were complaining of some injuries and after examining the patients they had a little soot on their faces, some hair singed, so they started treating the patients immediately and then called in additional units to help put out the fire.”
Officials said a family member escaped the home when the blaze started, and ran to a neighbors house to call the fire department. The family moved into the home last week.
