Family says crook stole $50K Nintendo collection in Pierce County

A Pierce County family is devastated after they say someone smashed into their home and stole more than $50,000 worth of video games.

The break-in left parts of the home's front door broken, but the true loss is rows and rows of emptied shelves that once held rare, collectible Nintendo games.

"It had my whole life there. That was basically a forty-year collection of Nintendo games on that shelf," said Roger Holler.

The backstory:

Holler tells FOX 13 Seattle the loss represents decades of family history. What began as a personal passion in 1984 grew into a decades-long bonding experience with him and his children.

"Over 30 years of driving around on the weekends from game store to game store, collecting, to coming home, cleaning them. You’re in the car for six, eight, 10 hours building memories," said Chris Sterling, Holler's son.

The financial hit to the family is substantial. Burglars took more than 850 Nintendo games, including several rare copies that are individually worth small fortunes, the family said.

"That was going to be my grandkids' inheritance or college tuition, and now I don’t have anything to give them," said Holler.

The break-in left the family shaken.

"They’ve been in our home. They know our home layout. They’ve been in our master bathroom. They took my wife’s tennis bracelet," said Holler.

The family has reported the burglary to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

What you can do:
