WA Gov. Inslee requests federal aid for bomb cyclone storm damage
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Governor Jay Inslee has formally requested a federal major disaster declaration for counties impacted by the "bomb cyclone" storms that battered western Washington in November 2024.
The storms, which included hurricane-force winds, caused millions of dollars in damage across the region. King County Emergency Management reported that in King County alone, there was more than $11 million in damage to public infrastructure.

Which WA counties would qualify for bomb cyclone federal aid?
What we know:
The counties that meet the damage threshold for federal assistance include Grays Harbor, King, Pacific, Snohomish, Wahkiakum and Walla Walla. If granted, the declaration would activate funding for emergency protective measures, as well as debris removal and the repair or replacement of damaged public facilities like schools and hospitals.
What's next:
While Inslee has made the request, the final decision rests with the White House. With just a few days remaining in the current administration, it remains to be seen whether the Biden administration will approve the request or if it will be passed on to the incoming Trump administration for consideration.
