Fire at Thurston Co. Fairgrounds burns motor homes, boats
LACEY -- A fire broke out at the Thurston County Fairgrounds shortly after 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. When crews arrived on the scene they found a 50-foot by 50-foot open-sided barn fully engulfed in flames.
Officials said the main body of the fire was quickly put out amd no other buildings on the fairgrounds were threatened or destroyed.
The structure, known as the "Hicks Lake Barn," is rented out as RV storage by Thurston County from September to June. According to Thurston County records, the barn was currently holding two large motor homes, a 5th wheel and two boats. All of the vehicles were more than 30 feet long.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Lacey Fire District will determine the total loss after property owners have been notified.
