Fire destroys part of African airport

NAIROBI, Kenya -- A massive fire shut down Nairobi's Kenyatta International Airport Wednesday forcing all flights to be temporarily diverted.

The blaze engulfed the airport's entire international terminal. The Interior Ministry in Kenya says that fire is now contained.

So far no reports of any fatalities, but some people were treated for smoke inhalation.

Officials say cargo and domestic flights have been cleared for landing and takeoff. Authorities say international flights are expected to resume on Thursday.

The blaze occurred on the 15th anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. It also comes days after the United States issued a worldwide travel alert and closed a number of embassies and consulates over large areas of the Middle East and Africa, but not in Kenya or Tanzania.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say there were no immediate signs of terrorism
