Fire in Mount Vernon damages 3 homes

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- Flames shot through the roof of a Mount Vernon home Wednesday afternoon and jumped to neighboring homes.

“Flames, there were a lot of flames and a lot of really dark smoke,” says Tamara Greenwood.

Greenwood hit record on her camera phone, capturing the flames from a safe distance after her son and her two dogs escaped the fire that completely singed their attic.

Investigators say the fire originated somewhere inside a house on West Meadow Boulevard, quickly spreading to neighboring homes on either side.

While the homeowner did not want to go on camera, he did tell Q13 News that firefighters helped him escape the flames along with his wife and child.

Neighbors to the left and right made it out OK, as well.

Crews treated one firefighter on the scene and he's OK.

No one inside any of the 3 homes was injured, but there`s a great deal of damage to be tallied.

Rather than factoring what she`s lost, Greenwood is counting her blessings.  “Everything I really need, I have -- so I’m good,” says Greenwood.

No word yet on a cause.
