Formal complaint filed against 'Ride the Ducks' tour firm after crash

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A formal complaint has been filed by state regulators against a Seattle tour company at the center of an investigation after five people were killed and dozens of others were injured after one of its amphibious vehicles swerved into an oncoming charter bus last week.

The complaint, which was expected, was filed late Tuesday by the state Utilities and Transportation Commission, a day after the commission suspended operations of the repurposed military "duck boats," owned by Ride the Ducks of Seattle.

The complaint alleges that at least one of its vehicles, "Duck 6," was operated in an unsafe manner.

The complaint says that until the commission's staff completes a full investigation of the company's safety practices, the "scope of potential safety issues cannot be established."
