BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A former federal law enforcement officer dropped his gun in a classroom at a community college that prohibits weapons on campus.
The Bellingham Herald reports (http://goo.gl/bxac6n ) the 47-year-old student's handgun was concealed but not secured Monday morning as he sat in a classroom at Whatcom Community College.
Bellingham police Sgt. Mike Scanlon says the gun fell to the floor when the former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer got out of his seat. He reportedly picked it up immediately and no one was injured.
School administrators called police, who said the man had a concealed carry permit and was cooperative and apologetic.
The only people allowed to carry weapons on campus are commissioned law enforcement officers.
College spokeswoman Mary Vermillion says administrators are determining their next steps.
