Get off your duff: Treadmill desks gaining in popularity
BELLEVUE -- If your desk job is turning you into a couch potato, you might want to consider working on a treadmill desk.
The world's first retail store dedicated to walking and standing desks, Work While Walking, recently opened in Bellevue.
Longtime Seattle-area businessman Ron Wiener came up with the idea after spending most work days hunched over a computer and gaining weight. After hearing about treadmill desks, he tried one and was hooked.
The desks make sure users are up and active, working at a comfortable pace between one to two miles per hour. It's just enough to increase the heart weight and speed metabolism, but not so fast to make you out of breath.
More companies are encouraging employees to stay healthy by losing weight and reducing stress in an effort to lower insurance costs and increase productivity.
Think a treadmill desk would help you? Maybe now it the time to go ahead and ask your boss.
