Get your Seahawks, Sounders license plates
SEATTLE -- A bill signed into law today will give you a chance to put a Seahawks or Sounders license plate on your car and help out local kids at the same time.
At the Seahawks’ Virginia Mason Practice Facility in Renton, Governor Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5152 today.
The measure creates separate specialty license plates for fans of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC.
Proceeds from the Seahawk plates will go to help a Seattle-based non-profit called InvestED, which works with local schools to help students from low-income families buy clothes, shoes, school activity cards, testing fees and other student needs.
The plates will go on sale at the first of the year and will cost $40 with a $30 annual renewal fee.
Most of the money from Sounders FC plate sales will go to Washington State Mentors, an Issaquah organization that provides grants and assistance to youth organizations across the state.
A third non-profit, the Association of Washington Generals, will also get a portion of the sales.
The AWG recognizes outstanding individuals in the community and promotes civic and veterans causes.
