Girl, 17, shot and killed in Burien; teenage suspect arrested

BURIEN, Wash. -- Deputies arrested a 17-year-old boy after a teenage girl was shot to death late Wednesday night in Burien.

The shooting happened at a complex off Ambaum Boulevard, just a few blocks from Highline High School.

Moments before the shooting, deputies said people heard an argument followed by at least three gunshots. They found the girl lying in a hallway with a gunshot wound.

Neighbors called 9-1-1 as paramedics and first responders tried to save her life.

“It’s likely that she knew or had contact with the person that shot her before this happened,” said Sgt. Jason Houck, King County Sheriff’s Office.

Overnight, detectives blocked off the area while they collected evidence and questioned witnesses.

Investigators said Thursday morning that Major Crimes detectives had arrested a 17-year-old boy and booked him into the Youth Services Center for investigation of murder. They said the suspect and victim knew each other, but it's still unclear what led to the shooting.

The identity of the teenage victim has not been released.
