'Goodwill' toward women vets

SEATTLE -- Goodwill Industries International is helping 3,000 female veterans find jobs with a new initiative, Operation Goodjobs, for female soldiers who are exiting Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Goodwill officials said roughly 6,000 service members transition out of the military from JBLM every year. About 13 percent of these soldiers are female while 87 percent are men.

The majority of those soldiers are 21 years old and have served in the military for three to 18 years. Of these soldiers, it is estimated 2,400 of htem will settle in Pierce, Thurston and King counties.

Details about the new program will be announced Thursday at 11 a.m. at Goodwill's Work Opportunity Center in Tacoma.
