Group wants to name next baby orca after CT shooting victim
SEATTLE-- In a local tribute to a national tragedy, the Pacific Whale Watch Association wants to name the next baby Orca born in Puget Sound after Jessica Rekos, one of the victims in the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Rekos' family said the 6-year-old fell in love with whales after watching "Free Willy" last year.
The PWWA, Free Willy-Keiko Foundation and Orca Conservancy sent out a release to its members proposing that the next baby Orca be named "Jessica."
Officials said they think it's a beautiful, positive thing they can do to honor Jessica, and all the Newtown, Conn., victims.
