Guards fire shots to end inmate fight at Monroe prison

MONROE, Wash. (AP) — Officials say correctional officers fired warning shots to break up a fight involving inmates at the Monroe Correctional Complex.


The Seattle Times reports (http://goo.gl/5o3HXg ) guards fired two warning shots Monday afternoon to stop two offenders from attacking a third in the yard of the Washington State Reformatory Unit.

A victim was checked by medics at a local hospital before returning to the prison.

Authorities canceled Monday evening visitations and programs and put the unit on restricted movement due to the incident.

The unit is one of five that make up the complex. The complex houses over 700 offenders in minimum and medium custody.
