Help identify this brazen package thief before he strikes again

RENTON, Wash. -- A homeowner is hoping Renton police will catch the man who stole a package off his porch while his wife and child were inside.

“It was very personal and very violating to us,” he says about the crime that took place near Lake Washington Boulevard last Thursday.

Just a few minutes after a UPS driver dropped off several boxes on his front porch, a man pulls up in what appears to be a red Nissan 300ZX convertible. He walks right up to the boxes and takes them.

“I couldn’t believe that people would actually do this,” says the homeowner, who asked us not to identify him. “He looked directly in the camera. He knew he was being recorded, but he still stole it.”

The homeowner’s wife was inside the house at the time of the crime.

“I don’t know what could have happened. He came up and stole the package. While he was doing that, my wife could have come up. That’s a very scary thought.”

The boxes contained a few dresses that were going to be given as gifts. He says they weren’t worth very much money.

“A lot of this package theft, it’s petty crime. But there’s so much of it happening. People see it all the time, but no one gets caught.”

Since his friend posted this video online, he’s been hearing from several neighbors who have also had thefts at their homes. They’re now sharing those tips with police, hoping to identify and catch this person.

“This is a petty theft, but this is how people start. A thief like that, you don’t know what he’s capable of in the future.”

If you have information on this thief, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
