High speed chase ends in crash

LAKEWOOD - A high speed police pursuit ended with the suspect car crashing into a utility pole in Pierce County.

Washington State Patrol says a trooper caught an SUV speeding along SR 512, and when he tried to stop the the vehicle, the driver of the SUV refused. The Trooper chased the car until it got off I-5 at the Gravelly Lake exit and crashed into a lamppost and guard rail. All four people inside were detained. At least two of them sustained injuries from the crash.

WSP says crews are trying to remove the utility pole because it's in danger of falling onto the roadway below. They say the overpass will be shut down most of Saturday and that drivers will only be able to go east until the bridge is reopened.
