If only it were gold: Metal bar crashes through family's roof, ceiling

SEATTLE -- A family in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood called police to report a three-pound metal bar had come crashing through the roof and ceiling of their home, perhaps from a passing aircraft.

Seattle police said the incident happened Sunday, but the family waited until Tuesday to call 911. The home is near 7th Avenue South and S. Director Street.

Officers photographed the metal bar -- and the 8-inch by 6-inch hole the bar made in the family’s roof and ceiling -- and contacted the FAA about the incident.

In a summary of the incident, an officer who responded to the scene surmised the piece of metal may have fallen from an “aircraft or a really big bird that had stolen a lead bar,” the Seattle Police Department said on its crime blotter.
