Injured hiker rescued day later
DARRINGTON, Wash. -- A seriously injured 32-year-old hiker was rescued by helicopter Sunday, a day after he fell at the 8200-foot level of Mount Goode in the North Cascades National Park.
The man was climbing Saturday with a group when he fell and was stranded in the park, officials said. Park rangers were flown to the scene by HiLine Helicopters and stayed with the hiker and his party overnight as the group waited for evacuation.
Snohomish County Sheriff's Rescue Helicopter SnoHawk 10 arrived to the park and hoisted the injured man off the mountain Sunday. The man was flown to the Colby Hospital in Everett and later transferred to Harborview Hospital in Seattle. His condition Monday was unknown.
In 2005, three climbers were killed in the North Cascades National Park after a fall, becoming one of the deadliest accidents in park history.
