Is this the most awkward 'Jeopardy' moment ever?

LOS ANGELES -- Beware. This is cringe worthy.

A contestant on "Jeopardy" gave what many are calling the most awkward response in the history of the show Friday night.

The answer to the question -- as posed by Alex Trebek -- was "In common law, the age of this, signaling adulthood, is presumed to be 14 in boys and 12 in girls."

Contest Tom responded quickly.

"What is the age of consent?"

Yeesh. No, Tom. The age of consent is not 12 in girls and 14 in boys.

Luckily, Trebek moved on quickly and found the correct response, "What is puberty."

Of course, scores of "Jeopardy" fans jumped to social media to weigh in on the awkwardness.

We'll chalk Tom's gaffe up to nerves, and too quick thinking.
