Knife-wielding woman injured in officer-involved shooting
BREMERTON -- A woman was taken to the hospital late Sunday night after being shot by a Bremerton police officer during a confrontation when she allegedly threatened officers with two knives.
Police said two officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Naval Ave. around 10:30 p.m. Sunday for a reported physical domestic dispute.
When they arrived on the scene, the officers were confronted by a 49-year-old female suspect who was armed with two knives. When the she moved toward one of the officers, he fired his gun multiple times, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Neighbors told police that the woman has a history of mental health issues.
The officer involved in the shooting has been with the department since 1996. He is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
The Kitsap County Investigative Response Team, the Washington State Patrol and other local organizations are investigating the incident.
