Lacey school briefly placed on lockdown after gunshots reportedly heard near campus

LACEY -- An elementary school in the North Thurston School District was briefly placed on temporary lockdown after staff reported hearing what sounded like gunshots in a nearby neighborhood.

The lockdown at Evergreen Forrest Elementary came just a day after a North Thurston High School student fired a revolver in the school. No one was injured in the shooting.

The elementary school released this note around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning:

The school has gone into temporary lockdown after staff reported hearing gunshots sound in a nearby neighborhood when they were on the playground. Please watch social media and the app for more updates. Do not go to the school to pick up your child as security measures are in place.

It was not immediately known if someone actually fired a gun in a nearby neighborhood, or it just sounded like it.

The lockdown was lifted around 10:30 a.m., Thurston County sheriff's deputies tweeted.
