Layoff notices sent to more Boeing employees in Washington

SEATTLE -- Boeing issued 200 layoff notices to Washington state employees late last week, the Seattle Times reported.

Three hundred layoff notices were issued company wide, with the majority of those employees living and working in Washington state.

According to the Times, most of the 60-day layoff notices went to white-collar employees in the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace union. Many of the workers were engineers, as well as technical workers and machine programmers.

The cuts come as part of the planned layoffs announced in March as 787 and 747-8 jet assembly winds down.

More than 2,300 Boeing jobs have disappeared in Washington state this year, the Times reported. Company wide, the workforce is down about 3,000.

The effective date for the recent round of the layoffs is Dec. 13.
