Local company builds interceptor boats for U.S. Customs

BREMERTON, Wash. -- A Washington-based company is helping the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency keep our waters safe.

On Thursday, Safe Boats International delivered a new coastal interceptor vessel to the agency.

The Bremerton company was awarded a $48 million contract to build 52 of the vessels.

The boats are highly maneuverable and capable of high-speed interceptions.

The boats will be used in a number of operations, including pursuing suspect vessels.
