Local runner -- while not the fastest -- inspires entire team
KENT, Wash. -- Track season has come and gone for most kids in the Puget Sound.
But for one student, and one team, this past year will stick with them forever.
Luke Richardson is a runner on the Mill Creek Middle School in Kent. He’s not the fastest or the strongest, but Luke is one special kid.
“It’s inspiring just to see the growth that he’s made,” says his coach Jeff Kuolt.
Richardson is autistic. From the 100-meter dash to shot put, he gives it his all. Meet after meet, he continues to improve, beating his personal best every week. Many, including his mom, are proud.
“Being part of the community, part of the school, helps him feel like a regular, regular kid,” says Richardson's mom.
For his teammate, Richardson an inspiration.
“We just want to compete well for him and make sure he has pride going to Mill Creek,” says Ben Woods.
Richardson hopes to continue running track in high school.
