Man arrested for vehicular homicide in accident that killed 63-year-old moped driver

SEATTLE -- A driver has been arrested for vehicular homicide after a fatal collision with a man on a moped in south Seattle, police said Monday.

Investigators believe the 63-year-old victim was riding his motorized scooter across Rainier Avenue on S. Bayview Street at about 6:15 p.m. Friday when the driver of a Chrysler van attempted to turn right on Bayview.

The two vehicles collided. Medics transported the 63-year-old driver of the scooter to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died.

An officer, specially trained to recognize signs of impairment, examined the van’s 54-year-old driver at the scene and found signs of intoxication, police said.

Police arrested the driver and booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.
