Man attempts to flee, hits police officer in head with booze bottle
PORT ANGELES -- A Port Angeles police officer, making a routine arrest of a man with a warrant, was struck in the head by a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Officer Shane Martin was driving his patrol car on Aug. 8 when he spotted a 21-year-old Sequim man, the Peninsula Daily News reported. The man, Trevor Keith Durham, had a warrant out for his arrest. Martin stopped his patrol car in the 1000 block of Front Street, got out and tried to grab Durham, the paper reported.
Martin told Durham that he was under arrest, which prompted Durham to pull away and flee. Durham swung his right arm while holding a can of alcoholic beverage, and ended up striking the officer in the head. Martin then tackled Durham to the ground and subdued and arrested the man with the help of three other police officers. The alcoholic beverage turned out to be a Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Police took Durham to the hospital and later booked him into the Clallam County Jail. Martin was not seriously hurt.
