EDMONDS -- A 38-year-old man was electrocuted and died Wednesday afternoon in what appeared to be a workplace accident, officials said.

The man was working on an expansion project at Swedish Medical Center's Edmonds campus when this happened.

Police said the victim was working with a compressed air tool in a ditch when he was somehow electrocuted and died at the scene.

Edmonds police and the Snohomish County Medical Examiner are investigating the cause of death.

The Department of Labor and Industries has been notified, but officials said it appeared to be an accident.

Nearly 900 people lost power around 2:00 p.m. including the hospital.
