Man jailed after trying to kill wife's new boyfriend, police say
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A 42-year-old Bellingham man is in jail after police say he tried to kill his estranged wife's new boyfriend on Valentine's Day.
Bellingham police say Patrick Allen Leach drove to his wife's van to an apartment complex with a stolen shotgun at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Lt. Bob Vander Yacht says the wife and her boyfriend saw Leach get out of the van and reach back inside for the shotgun. They ran up and tackled him.
The Bellingham Herald reports that a neighbor called 911 for help as the two wrestled Leach.
Leach was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence assault and theft of a firearm.
Leach's wife had filed for divorce in December.
