76-year-old man killed in Parkland crash

A 76-year-old man died in a crash Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the Parkland Ace Hardware.

What we know:

According to Pierce County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Carly Cappetto, the driver was speeding before the fatal collision. It happened around 10:47 a.m.

It's believed the driver was heading eastbound near the 112th Street South and Pacific Avenue South intersection, crossed over westbound lanes without hitting anyone, and slammed into a pole in the Ace Hardware parking lot.

The car spun out several times after the collision, and the 76-year-old driver died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department Traffic Unit is investigating.
