KENT, Wash. - An investigation is underway after a man was killed by a train in Kent on Wednesday.
What we know:
The Kent Police Department (KPD) said that at 5:21 p.m., officers and Puget Sound firefighters responded to the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks near the corner of 1st Avenue South and East Titus Street for reports of a train hitting a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers found a 38-year-old Kent man dead at the scene.
What they're saying:
Train crew members said the man was crossing the tracks heading west and appeared not to notice the train. They confirmed with police that the crossing arms were down to stop traffic, the warning signals were functioning, and the train's whistles were working properly.
Officers contacted nearby businesses to request any surveillance footage that may help with the investigation. Police are asking anyone with video or information about the incident to contact the KPD Tip Line at 253-856-5808 or email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov.
