Man killed after serious Kent crash, police investigating
KENT, Wash. - An 84-year-old Kent man was killed after a serious crash in the East Hill neighborhood Monday morning.
What we know:
According to Kent police, the crash happened along 104th Avenue Southeast near Southeast 250th Place just after 9:45 a.m.
Initial reports indicate that a BMW SUV was driving recklessly in the turn lane on 104th Avenue, and struck a Ford Ranger truck as it was entering the roadway from a private drive.
Officers arrived on scene to find the Ford truck in the roadway on its driver's side. Firefighters with Puget Sound Fire were able to extract the trapped driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Despite receiving aid on scene, the 84-year-old driver died as he was being transported to the hospital.
Police said the driver of the BMW SUV, identified as a 21-year-old Renton resident, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
What's next:
Investigators collected evidence at the scene and are working to determine the definitive cause of the accident.
Traffic officers reopened 104th Avenue after it was closed in both directions for several hours.
