Man pleads guilty to selling unapproved cancer remedies
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island business owner has pleaded guilty to selling unapproved health products as cancer remedies.
Prosecutors say 68-year-old James Feijo, owner and operator of Daniel Chapter One, admitted in federal court that he used websites and his daily radio show to market and sell products that were not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Feijo pleaded guilty to introduction of a new unapproved drug and tax evasion.
Prosecutors say Feijo improperly treated the company's workers as contract employees and failed to pay employment taxes of more than $200,000.
Under a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to dismiss charges against Feijo's wife, Patricia.
Daniel Chapter One was ordered this year to pay $5 million by a federal judge in Washington in a lawsuit brought by the Federal Trade Commission.
