Mariners shut out Padres on Memorial Day
SEATTLE -- The Mariners defeated the Padres Monday, 9-0 at Safeco Field.
Jason Bay opened scoring with a lead off home run in the bottom of the first. Three batters later, Michael Morse stepped up to the plate to hit a three-run homer to open the Mariners lead to 4-0.
The Mariners did not score again until the fourth when Kelly Shoppach hit a home run to give Seattle a 5-0 lead.
In the seventh, Kendrys Morales singled to left to score Brendan Ryan and Jason Bay, while Kyle Seager made it to third, to make it 7-0 Mariners. Seager took advantage and scored off a wild pitch by Padres' Anthony Bass. Morales was able to move to second. Raul Ibanez doubled to right to score Morales giving the Mariners a 9-0 lead.
Mariners' Aaron Harang pitched a full game for the first time since 2009. Harang allowed just four hits in the nine innings to come away with the win.
