Mother of toddler killed in house fire to be released from jail

OLYMPIA -- The mother of an 18-month-old killed in a house fire in Steamboat Island will be released from jail.

A judge didn’t set bail for 22-year-old Ashley Conroy, instead ruling that she would be on supervised release.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s office arrested Conroy for second-degree manslaughter Monday for the death of her son.

Investigators said Conroy left her son, William Bradsnyder, alone inside her home. A portable grill used to heat the home sparked the fire, according to deputies.

Conroy told investigators she put her son to bed and went to a nearby home to eat.

According to court documents, William’s room was “extremely dirty, with clothing, garbage, and vehicle parts stacked on the floor” near the grill. Investigators believe William was crawling around and got tangled in the grill cord. His body was found under a desk.

In court, Conroy appeared through a video monitor. Her face was slightly burned and covered in bandages from the fire. The judge said she has no criminal history and was not a flight risk.
