Musician accused of defrauding investors over big-name album

SEATTLE -- Musician Kasey Anderson, leader of the Northwest group “Kasey Anderson and the Honkies,” appeared in federal court Tuesday on charges he defrauded investors out of more than $365,000 for fictitious music projects, including one that he allegedly told investors would involve such stars as Bruce Springsteen and Willie Nelson..
“Anderson may materially false and fraudulent representations to lure investors to invest in Anderson’s projects,” the federal prosecutors' complaint said.
Anderson raised more than a half-million dollars, prosecutors said, for a charity album to benefit the "West Memphis Three," three men who were convicted of murder in the 1990s but who some believe were wrongly incarcerated. Prosecutors said he told investors that many famous musicians had agreed to contribute tracks, including Springsteen.
Anderson did not enter a plea in U.S. District Court Tuesday.
