Officials investigating military equipment dumped at public landfill
TACOMA -- Army officials are investigating why, and who, dumped hundreds of pounds of military equipment off at a Tacoma landfill earlier this month, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.
Dozens of biometric scanning devices used by soldiers to collect fingerprints and eye scans were spotted at the Tacoma landfill on Oct. 19. No one was sure who brought the equipment, or why it was taken to the public landfill.
Officials said the equipment is commonly used in the military, but would have little significance for most civilians.
Officials at Joint Bases Lewis-McChord said Army investigators were looking into why the equipment was thrown out, saying the items would not typically turn up at a public landfill.
