Olympia business owners, neighbors fired up over proposed homeless shelter
OLYMPIA- A group of local churches is planning a homeless shelter that is causing outrage among people who live and work near the proposed site.
Interfaith Works wants to locate the 40-bed shelter at 1011 10th Ave. SE and it would reportedly have fewer rules than traditional shelters, including accepting sex offenders.
The president of the Eastside Neighborhood Association said residents didn't learn of the proposal until reading about it in the Olympian last week. On Tuesday, they voiced concerns at a city council meeting.
