Pacific's new mayor hires police officers to fill vacant posts
In her first act as mayor of Pacific, Leanne Guier, is beefing up the city's police department.
Thursday night, the city council selected Guier, to replace Cy Sun, who was recalled by voters in a special election. She immediately hired two candidates today, to fill the city's vacant police officer positions. She says Pacific has struggled with fewer officers, which has led to an increase in crime.
Guier, 52, has served as the city council president, has been a resident of Pacific for 17 years and has been active in community organizations for ten years. She was appointed to the City Council in 2009.
Guier was sworn in immediately and will serve the remainder of Sun's term, which expires December 31, 2015.
Sun's recall became official Tuesday. The final tally was 949 (65.4%) votes in favor of recalling him, and 502 (34.6%) in favor of keeping him in office.
