Planned Parenthood plans to open new facility in Spokane; re-establish services after arson

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Planned Parenthood has announced plans to build a $5 million facility in Spokane that will replace one of its existing health centers.

The Spokesman-Review reports the facility will be located just east of the current building, which will be torn down once the new health center is up and running. The new facility is expected to open in winter 2017.

A Planned Parenthood spokeswoman says the nonprofit has raised $1.2 million toward its $2 million capital campaign. According to a news release, major donors have included Smith-Barbieri Progressive Fund and the Harriet Cheney Cowles Foundation.

Planned Parenthood is currently working to re-establish its services in Pullman after their clinic was damaged by arson in September. Officials estimate the attack will cost the organization $250,000.
