LOS ANGELES, Calif -- A satirical headline sparked wild rumors online this week about the fate of a much loved Golden Girl.
Before we explain let’s be clear, Betty White is not dead. In fact she is alive and well and likely laughing at all the ruckus sparked by the website EmpireNews.
“Actress Betty White, 92, dyes peacefully in her Los Angeles home” read the headline which quickly went viral Wednesday.
The mistake people were making was misunderstanding the word ‘dyes’ in that headline.
In fact the story was a tongue-in-cheek piece about White not being a natural blond.
That didn’t stop the internet from completely losing its collective mind and erroneously trumpeting that White was dead.
