Police: Driver who crashed into two cars was speeding, likely under the influence



PUYALLUP -- A pickup truck driver who crashed into two cars injuring himself and another driver could face vehicular assault charges, police said.

Witnesses told police the Chevy pickup was driving recklessly and passing in the left-turn only lane just before the crash.

Investigators said the pickup was speeding down River Road near 15th Street NW around 5:15 p.m. Saturday when the driver hit a Volkswagen. They said the driver then crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Ford Focus.

The driver of the Ford suffered life-threatening injuries.  The Volkswagen driver was not harmed.

The 32-year-old suspect was seriously hurt and taken to the hospital. Investigators suspect he was driving under the influence.

Detectives with the Metro Collision Response Team are conducting the investigation.
