Police investigating high-speed fatal crash near busy Bellevue intersection

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- A man died in a high-speed crash Wednesday near a busy intersection in Bellevue.

According to Bellevue police, the car was traveling at a "very high rate of speed" on 148th Ave. SE just before 8 p.m.

Officer Seth Tyler says the car was moving so fast it took out a utility pole and a tree.

Police said after the crash, the car's engine landed about 100 feet away from the car itself.

A photo from the scene showed the extent of the damage.

Two people in another car had stopped to help when a tree fell on the car. Both the driver and passenger in that car were okay.

Authorities closed 148th Ave. SE between Main St. and SE 8th St. Wednesday evening for the investigation.

No further details were immediately available.
