Police investigating sexual assault on Burke Gilman Trail on UW campus
SEATTLE -- A woman reported being groped Sunday morning on the Burke Gilman Trail west of Mercer Court on the UW campus, the University of Washington Police Department said Thursday.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was walking in that area at 9 a.m. last Sunday, May 1, when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks, UW Police said. She told officers she tried walking away from him, but he kept up and placed his hand on the left side of her chest. She said she warned him to leave her alone, and she was able to walk away from him to a safe place.
The man is described as a 30- to 40-year-old man with a dark complexion, about 5-foot-10, with a thick beard and dark brown or black curly, shoulder-length hair. She told officers he smelled of cigarette smoke. She said he was wearing a light-colored, long, buttoned gray jacket.
If you saw the incident or have information about the suspect, you are asked to call the UW Police Department at (206) 685-8973.
