Police: Man arrested after crashing SUV, firing shots near Puyallup School District facility
PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Several Puyallup School District buildings were forced into a lockdown Thursday morning after someone fired shots in the area and fled police.
Puyallup police said around 5:30 a.m. they were called to a one-car crash in the 1200 block of 39th Ave SW. Officers said one person fired shots and then ran from the scene.
That person was found hiding in the brush and taken into custody at 7:30 a.m., police said. Officers recovered the gun and said nobody was hurt.
The lockdown at the Puyallup School District facility on 39th Ave SW was lifted shortly before 8 a.m.
Students arriving late today will not be marked tardy and school lunches will be served on time, they said.
Q13 FOX viewers said robocalls were going out to notify parents of the bus delays.
District officials also said Woodland Elementary was placed on modified lockdown for a short time out of an abundance of caution.
Eastbound SR 512 was briefly closed, but reopened around 7:40 a.m. Check our live traffic map for updates.
