Rare baseball cards sold for $40,000 at Tacoma auction
A rare set of baseball cards fetched $40,000 this week at an auction in Tacoma. The 1915 Cracker Jack set, put up for auction Tuesday night at Tacoma's Hamilton Auction Gallery, was actually missing two cards , The News Tribune reported.
Among players featured in the set are Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. A near-mint collection sold for $157,000 at an auction in 2008.
The set sold in Tacoma might be the most expensive item ever sold at the mom-and-pop auction house. The buyer must also pay a 15-percent buyer's premium, bringing the total price to $46,000.
