Report: 2 King County deputies could be fired for dishonesty
SEATTLE (AP) — King County Sheriff John Urquhart is deciding whether to fire two deputies for dishonesty after an internal investigation found they falsely accused a county bus driver of using profanity during a heated exchange last fall.
The Seattle Times reports the deputies didn't know that the bus driver recorded the encounter with a video camera built into his glasses. The video showed driver Kelvin Kirkpatrick did not use profanity during the Nov. 14 argument in downtown Seattle.
Urquhart says he will decide next week whether to uphold recommendations to fire Sgt. Lou Caballero and Deputy Amy Shoblom.
Both deputies denied the allegations in written statements presented in June hearings. Their attorney, Julie Keys, said Wednesday that the open investigation prevents the deputies from commenting. She called them "honorable and dedicated officers."
