Report: Setting sun may have affected driver's visibility in fatal crash with bicyclist

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — A 20-year-old Walla Walla University student who was struck by a pickup truck while riding her bicycle died Wednesday at a Seattle hospital.

KVEW reports Madison Baird of College Place was hit Tuesday afternoon at Walla Walla. Sheriff's deputies believe the setting sun may have affected the driver's visibility.

Baird was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

Walla Walla University President John McVay said in a statement that Baird was surrounded at the hospital by family and friends who were singing together and sharing messages of hope.
