Report: Woman put out fake Amber Alert to get her car back

GALEVSTON, Texas -- A woman who reported a fake Amber Alert in an effort to get her car back will face criminal charges, Click2Houston reports.

According to Click2Houston, an Amber Alert was issued around Friday after a woman put in charge of babysitting a child reported that when she woke up from a nap, someone had stolen her purse, cellphone, SUV and the child.

Now, police are saying the whole thing was a hoax, and the woman reported that her baby was stolen because some teens took her car and she wanted it back.

"We have no missing child," Galveston Police Chief Henry Porretto said. "We have a lady who has made a false police report to get her car back. It is absolutely insane that somebody would do that."

Because the case involved so many different agencies, the woman could be charged with a felony, Click2Houston reports.
