Seattle police to beef up security for Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

SEATTLE -- The 5th annual Rock 'n' Roll Marathon takes over the streets of Seattle Saturday.

And in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, police said they will beef up patrols.

"There will definitely be an enhanced security presence, both visible to the public, and some enhancement that will not be visible," detective Renee Witt said.

Police are asking people to leave coolers and backpacks at home this year. If you plan on watching the race, you're asked to bring your items in clear plastic bags.

The race begins and ends at Seattle Center and an estimated 26,000 runners are expected to take part. More than 3,000 volunteers will line the streets, including musicians and cheerleaders along the course.

The "Finish Line Festival & Headliner Concert" at Seattle Center is free to the public and features 2011 American Music Awards best new artist Chelle Rae.
